Almost perfect.

Two mods, now solid

Purchased the fully assembled navy blue w Red switches for my work daily driver - on Win machines I prefer a 65%, while at home on a Mac I prefer 75% (which is why the home daily driver is a GMMK Pro). I prefer the heft of a full aluminum chassis, and have liked the other Keychrons I've purchased and tried.

Out of the box, the Q2 has nice heft. It's substantial, it feels serious. Fit and finish is first rate. Has more flex and give than the GMMK Pro, which I very much like. The OSA keycap profile is also quite nice, very much different than the spherical Drop MT3 I had been using at home, and after adjusting I prefer typing on it. The switch and keycap pullers are good quality, and there are thoughtful included items like allen screwdriver for the case screws and additional screws (yay!). So there's a lot to like just unboxing and plugging it in.

All that being said, my initial reservations were stabilizers and overall typic experience. The typing feel was just okay for me, sound profile not really pleasant. And those stabilizers, out of the box...nope. They are pre-lubed (with lube dripping down onto the PCB, I found), but clacky.

So the two mods I performed: 1) replaced the red switches with Gateron Phantom Yellows, and 2) band aid modded the stabilizers. This really cleaned up both the typing feel and the sound profile. No more clack, much more thock.

The vertical give of the Q2 and the lower-pitched sound profile is now much more pleasant than what I have on the home office driver, and I'm hoping the new GMMK Flex Kit that is arriving next week will get that closer to what I now have in the Q2.

I also realize all of this is pretty subjective...many of you will love the Q2 as-delivered, right out of the box. Others of us may want to disassemble and modify a bit, and for that, the Q2 offers lots of opportunities, as well as a very accessible and straightforward assembly process that makes modding easy.

All in all, I'm very pleased with the purchase, and can recommend the Q2 as both a great entry point board (many will leave it stock) and a good 65% platform for mods both subtle and extreme.

Best keyboard ive ever used

This is my first keyboard with lubed switches and it honestly feels so different from any other keyboard ive used. They are way smoother and easier to press and i would highly recommend getting the red switches with this keyboard. The build is very sturdy and the case is a very heavy metal and feels like quality. The OSA keycaps are just fine for me even though ive always been using normal keycaps, i also like the font. I have the shell white one and it looks beautiful with the RGB shining through. My only complaint is that the left shift is a bit heavier to press down than what im used to and i play a lot of shooting games. Other than that, this is a great keyboard.

Great keyboard

Great keyboard - it's now my go-to. Solidly built with nice feeling key caps, and I love the knob.

I'm a programmer, so I spend all day typing. This keyboard has been great, and is one of the smallest I could find that still had the top-level functionality I need. (I don't like relying on layers for things I hit frequently, I have too many different keyboards to make learning new keys worth it)

Such an amazing keyboard

It feels so good to type on with Gateron browns. Very quality feeling and the keycaps are professional looking. I'm not even going to mod it; buying some holy pandas and bringing it to work.

Please note that the knob color may be slightly different with the case (the blue and grey only) as these parts are manufactured separately.

All-Around Customizable Keyboard

To build a fully customizable keyboard, we designed every component to be able to assemble easily. Therefore, you can customize and adjust each component you want.

Structure of Keychron Q2 65% Layout QMK Custom Mechanical Keyboard

Double-Gasket Design

The Double Gasket Design is a new innovative structure in the industry. In addition to the gaskets on the plates, we added silicone pads between the top and bottom cases to significantly reduce the sound resonance between the metals and reduce the noise of the impacted metals. This Double-Gasket Structure allows the keyboard to maintain the flexibility of the gasket structure and improves the overall typing sound.

Programmable Knob

Designed to enhance your creative workflow, the premium rotary encoder allows you to customize your favorite keys and macros through the innovative VIA software with ease.

You can easily customize the Q2's knob to your desired key or macro commands like zooming in/out, adjusting screen brightness, brush size, opacity, volume, selecting video clips or photos, or backlight hue.

OSA Profile Double-shot PBT Keycaps

For the new double-shot PBT keycaps, we built a new profile. It has a similar height to that of the OEM profile and has a SA-like shape. We named it the OSA (OEM spherical angled) keycap. The PBT keycaps will provide excellent oil resistance, enhance the type feel, and prevent the legends from fading out.

Switch layouts between macOS & Windows

Built with the Mac users’ experience in mind while still retaining compatibility for Windows devices, the Keychron Q2 comes with a system toggle and an additional set of customized keycaps for both Windows and macOS systems. You can now save two different layouts on the keyboard, one for each system.

pfLauncher

Program with QMK & Launcher.

The open-source QMK firmware means endless possibilities for key remapping, macros, shortcuts, and more. Now you can easily customize each key with the Keychron Launcher web app.

Hot-swappable

The hot-swappable sockets are mounted on the PCB, so you can install or change the switches without soldering. The PCB supports both 3 pin and 5 pin MX mechanical switches.

South-facing RGB LED Lights

The south-facing RGB is designed to better illuminate the keyboard backlight from the typist’s angle with the premium non-shine-through PBT keycaps installed. The south-facing RGB is also free from interference when the user installs OEM or Cherry-profile alternative keycaps on their keyboard.

Note: The Q2's top case has sharper corners to make it much more compatible with third-party keycaps.

Pre-lubed Gateron G Pro Switch

Every detail counts when it comes to a premium typing experience. An optimized mold with more precise positioning and less wobbliness will certainly improve your fingertip feel. Pair that together with factory pre-lubed Gateron G Pro switches, a smooth travel experience is guaranteed.

Screw-In PCB Stabilizers

All New Screw-In PCB Stabilizers

The screw-in design increases stability and makes it easier for changes and upgrades. Precise craftsmanship makes the stabilizers more stable and less wobbly. The big keys’ (space bar, shift, enter, delete) typing experience is now more stable and smooth. The Keychron Q2 also supports third-party stabilizers including Cherry or Durock.
